Meet Your Provider
Janelle Aguilon, APN
Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)
No more medical confusion.
Start fresh with a
down-to-earth approach for realistic, actual healing.
I’m a Colorado-based medical provider that sees child and adult patients starting at age 6.
I specialize in children, young adults, and trauma/PTSD.
An expert in psychiatry with 10+ years of healthcare experience and an additional degree in social work - here to support you as a whole person, not just the medications that you take.
Let’s be real. You’re the expert in a lot of things, but likely not in psychiatry. Let me guide you through this complex world of medical mental health so that you can focus on yourself and what you need to do in life
Care with me is an opportunity to be real with what’s bothering you, understand what treatment options are available to you in a conversation that you can actually understand, and have a well informed voice in your treatment goals.
Feeling heard and understood is the foundation of healing.
You’re here because the self-help books, coping skills, relaxation techniques, hobbies, or even therapy wasn’t enough.
I recognize the motivation to be on this page because taking medications for your mental health is usually not the ideal for many people. Don’t get me wrong, these habits that I just listed can be so powerful for your mental health. But it’s likely you feel like you’ve already exhausted the non-medicinal options (and your own motivation) to feel better and either it feels like it only takes you so far, or your own mental health keeps you from practicing said habits.
Getting help from me looks different for everyone. From seeking mental health diagnoses to validate and better understand why you feel out of control, to getting re-evaluating medications that you’re already taking to make sure you’re getting the best benefits out of them, to this being even your first time seeking psychiatric care and wanting to know how I can help you. Wherever you are at in your mental health journey, I’ll join you as a team member and start there.
My philosophy on taking medications and supplements for your mental health is that it’s not meant to cure everything that’s going on, but set a more balanced foundation so that you can break what seemed to be the upper limit barrier of help from those self-help books, coping skills, relaxation techniques, hobbies, or therapy and even be enjoyable in the process.
What I don’t like is trading one issues for the other so my goal with medication management is to minimize the side effects and maximize the benefits. We should be finding a system that works for you sustainably, not just “bandaids” the problem.
There’s two main mental health fields: medication management and therapy. I’m on the medication management side of care, though I do have a degree in social work. I use that degree to help close the gap and support you holistically.
As an Asian American myself, I'm an advocate for taking into account of any cultural or identity considerations in your care.
“Imagine the weight of your mental health lifting off your shoulders so that you feel more motivated to take on life - that relief is my goal for you.”
Care with Me is a Patient-Centered Approach
-
Compassion
Patients should not feel like just a number in a clinic. I like to practice therapeutic communication throughout appointments and get to know my patients more than just the medications that they take. If a patient is working with a therapist, I like to check in on what their recent therapy goals are and relate that into my own work of support their wellbeing.
-
Teamwork
I oftentimes tell my patients that there is no one-size-fits-all treatment. I want my patients to feel comfortable throughout their experience under my care and part of supporting this commitment is through giving them a voice knowing that they are the ones who take the medications at the end of the day.
-
Safety
Safety is always my number one priority. To support my patients both short-term and long-term, I feel most comfortable prescribing medications that will also be safe and comfortable for short-term and long-term use. I stay up-to-date on evidence-based research.
-
Open-Mindedness
There is no one way to live life, and I believe that there is no room for judgment when it comes to caring for someone's mental health. I accept all my patients for who they are and encourage them to be themselves when they work with me, both during and outside of appointments.
Specializing in…

Mental health challenges can be especially difficult in the early stages of life as children and teens navigate emotions, friendships, school pressures, and identity development. Struggling with anxiety before a big test, outbursts of frustration that seem uncontrollable, or feeling lonely can be overwhelming without the right support.
We’re experts at understanding a child’s stages of development and we ensure that each child or teen receives care that relates to their emotional, cognitive, and social needs.
We understand that giving medications to children can be an especially big decision to make! Some parents come to the first appointment still uncertain whether medication is the something that they want to pursue and that’s understandable. We’ll provide you the education you need and different treatment options so that you feel comfortable and safe.
-
We get it. Transitioning from childhood to adulthood can be a lot more difficult than you anticipated. From managing college or career stress to navigating relationships, independence, and your own personal struggles, this stage of life can be more than what you signed up for.
You may feel like you have a foot in both doors where you feel more independent than a child, but not necessarily confident enough to say that you can face world by yourself. Maybe there’s challenges or trauma you didn’t even realize that you were dealing with for a long time until you grew up and now you’re unsure what to do about it. Or maybe you’re trying to build deeper relationships but find yourself self-sabatoging despite your best intensions. And while dealing with all that… let’s talk about how much pressure it is to decide what career you want to dedicate the rest of your life towards!
We understand. And we’re here to help build confidence, clarity, and understanding, emotional balance within yourself.
-
Not all mental health conditions can simple be explained as chemical imbalances.
Trauma isn’t something that just happened in the past - it can feel like a weight you carry every single day. It may show up for you as constant anxiety that prevents you from being safe, even in your own bed. Or maybe it’s the nightmares, flashbacks, or emotional numbness that makes it hard to connect with what’s going on in reality. Perhaps you find yourself stuck in patterns of fear, self-doubt, or avoidance. No matter how much time has passed, somehow you just can’t move on or feel like you’re strong enough.
We recognize trauma comes in many forms, from a single life-altering even to a series of small but deeply impactful, repeated experiences. We want to understand not what you’re dealing with today, but how your past brought you here so that can understand the core of your story and help you heal.
