Autism

Autism, or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects how individuals communicate, interact socially, and process information. Autism presents differently in each person, with symptoms ranging from mild to severe, often appearing in early childhood. People with autism may struggle with social interactions, have difficulty understanding nonverbal cues, or engage in repetitive behaviors. They may also have specific interests or routines that bring comfort and predictability.

Common symptoms of autism include

  • Difficulty with social communication, such as maintaining eye contact or understanding body language

  • Delayed language development or repetitive speech patterns

  • Intense focus on specific interests or activities

  • Sensitivity to sensory input, such as sounds, lights, or textures

  • Repetitive movements or behaviors, such as hand-flapping or rocking

  • Difficulty adapting to changes in routine
